Title
Spiritual Egocentrism: A Perspective on Spiritual Maturity
Abstract

The inability to recognize or consider viewpoints other than one'€™s own is labeled "€œegocentrism."€ Most obviously present during the early years of life, egocentrism appears at other age levels and in various content areas (e.g., physical, social, linguistic). A similar inability but in relation to not seeing God'€™s perspective is presented here as spiritual egocentrism. This unique conceptualization of spiritual immaturity is examined from the Piagetian orientation and supported with biblically-based examples. Implications, both theological and personal, are suggested based on the results of integrating the concepts of natural and spiritual egocentrism.
