Abstract

This paper deals with an historical overview of the study of religion by American psychologists. Included is a discussion of methods, which have been used over the last half-century. These are presented with particular attention being to description of method, its history in other approaches and a reference in which it was used. Significant contributions to the history and theory of methodology are evaluated. The final section deals with a brief review of certain developments in the 1940's and 1950's which have resulted in the present upsurge of interest in the psychology of religion.
