    While the nation of Estonia was under Soviet military occupation, and the Soviets were attempting to eradicate Estonian ethnic identity, national choral festivals were the means of maintaining Estonian identity. This ethnography allows Estonians to tell their story of how singing ethnic and Christian music helped them to become free. Profound insights into culture and music provide insight for the church in the West.
