Welcome to this special volume of the Christian Education Journal! This volume marks a couple of milestones. First, 2003 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Religious Education Association (REA), an organization that has been a major influence in the field of Christian education in North America over this past century. To mark the occasion, this volume’s two issues will focus on the contributions of evangelical Christian education leaders over the past century and what we have learned that gives us direction for the field of Christian education in the future. Second, this volume marks the beginning of “Series 3” for the journal, with a new expanded editorial staff, an expanded relationship with the North American Professors of Christian Education (NAPCE), new goals and format, and financial supportand staff assistance from Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. It’s an exciting time to be involved in the journal. The change in leadership for the journal has just taken place, and the new staff will be taking this coming year to work on plans for the journal’s development. We anticipate having the new plans developed and the journal fully into its new format by the Fall 2004 issue (Series 3,Volume 2).
