The Social Context of the Renewal Problem in Theological Education: Probing Beyond the Symptoms of Failure

This historic struggle between competing versions of reality in American society underlies the renewal problem in seminaries, says the author. When the religious version of reality lost its struggle with the secular version of reality in the public square, the seminary also lost its place. Until we understand this social reality, and recognize its implications for the age of relativism upon us, renewal will be shortsighted and trivial.
